Pump runs but no water?

  • Priming –  suction pipe not completely filled with water.
  • The check valve has failed
  • Discharge head too much – depth to water beyond pump range.
  • Suction lift too high.  Suction pipe may be too small or long, causing excessive friction loss.
  • The Impeller is blocked.
  • Suction pipe/screen/strainer completely blocked.
  • Pump motor running in reverse (check direction).
  • Air pocket in suction line.
  • Air leaks in suction line and/or shaft seal, gland packing.
  • Discharge line closed off, solenoid valve not opening or gate valve closed.

Poor flow?

  • Priming – casing and suction pipe not completely filled with liquid.
  • Discharge head higher than anticipated.  Check friction loss in piping.
  • Suction lift too high.  Suction pipe may be too small or long and causing excessive friction loss.
  • Impeller partially plugged.
  • Suction pipe/screen /strainer partially blocked.
  • Pump motor running in reverse (check direction).
  • Air pocket in suction line.

Fix old well Nedlands?

We do see some picturesque scenes in some beautiful Perth gardens.

Underneath this tin lid in a lovely Nedlands garden is an old style well. The ladder goes down about 15 metres to a pump. One of our specialist team diagnosed that the pump had failed.

Given the age and condition the best solution here is to start again with a new submersible bore and stainless steel pump. The garden will soon be enjoying fresh groundwater again.

If you have an old style well with a tin lid in Nedlands or the surrounding areas of Dalkeith, Mosman Park or Cottesloe and would like to talk about the costs of a new submersible water bore call David on 9246 0111.

If your Nedlands old style well can be repaired we can also help. For more information HERE

Sand in your bore?

If you have a water bore and have white sand coming from your sprinklers call us on 9246 0111.

You’re never meant to see white sand coming from a sprinkler. In the case of this customer they had an old style well.

Screen failed allowing in sand
Sand coming out of sprinkler

The screen had failed which allowed in sand. It is very white sand that comes from water bearing ground that is washed almost iridescent over the years. The options for this broken Perth water bore was to either redrill a spear into the existing well or drill a new submersible bore.

After assessment by our bore serviceman it was decide it was more economical to opt for a new modern submersible water bore. Our bore installation and service team at can help with any bore problem in Perth. Call us on 9246 0111 or you can book a bore service HERE .

Old well lost prime Rivervale

This old style well in Rivervale has stopped pumping water and has lost prime. We got a call  on 9246 0111 from a client on Sunday who is selling his investment property in Rivervale.

His old style well in Rivervale has stopped pumping water with the he pump running  but no water was coming out. “My bore sounds like it is doing something – very noisy but no water coming out”. The homeowner kindly sent us some pics of the bore pump and well to help us work out the problem.

It is most likely a priming issue of some description. An air leak in the pump is a possibility as the client said the Perth bore pump ran dry for a while. This causes the metal housing to overheat which in turn can heat up the PVC pipe and distort it breaking the threaded seal and letting air in.

The cause may be a failed check valve, leak in the down borehole pipe or it may even be too far to the groundwater level in Rivervale at this time of year.

We will attend Rivervale on Monday and sort the problem as the client is in the process of selling the house. If we can help you with fixing an old well in Rivervale, Kewdale, Belmont or surrounds call on 9246 0111.

All service pumps, wells or bores anywhere in Perth. Happy to take your call 7 days a week or book an online service HERE
