Electrical Problem with Bore Ballajura

Our specialist bore electrician recently fixed a circuit breaker that was tripping in Beechboro. Call 9246 0111.

Dave, our electrician, tested the single phase submersible pump and all the electrical tests were OK but were marginal on this Beechboro water bore.

There was an old metal start-box which was rusted out and dangerous. He replaced and rewired the start box with a new 1.5 kw rated box with matching start capacitor. Dave replaced some dangerous connections at the bore head and retested everything. Given the apparent age of the submersible pump it will likely need replacing in the next few years. We have recommended that at that time the down hole electrical cable and stainless steel draw wire is also replaced.

It was a busy day in Ballajura today. We got called to a couple of bore electrical problems which we sorted quite quickly. We couldn’t immediately help the last call though.

The gentleman had a submersible bore that was of dubious construction. Not only was the borehole itself drawing sand, something which incidentally does not happen if the correct screens and gravel packing is used, but also the submersible pump was stuck irretrievably down the bore hole. The submersible pump had been installed down the bore without a stainless steel draw wire. The owner had erected a tripod and attempted to retrieve the pump by hauling up the poly pipe on a block and tackle. Unfortunately the poly pipe had snapped some metres down the bore hole and the poly pipe and submersible pump were now completely stuck.

Next week we will be drilling a new water bore for him. We’ll be sure to do everything to best practice standards to avoid problems like this in the future. We suspect this original bore had been a DIY or at best done by a backyard operator. Make sure if you are having a bore drilled in Ballajura or surrounds you use a licensed driller and preferably one who is a member of the ADIA.

We won’t tell you where in Perth our service man came across this unorthodox bore and reticulation interface but it was north of the river.

The reticulation controller was an indoor model mounted outside. It “talked” to the 24 volt relay that turned on the old well style centrifugal pump. We were called because the old bore had stopped pumping water.

In this case ultimately the best solution was to replace the old well with a new style submersible style bore in the northern suburbs home. This was done by our Perth bore drilling arm Virgin Bores. Check out our website www.virginbores.com.au.

Burnt start capacitor Ballajura

This week we got a call to our Perth bore service team from a customer in Ballajura.
He said he switched his submersible water bore on and the box on the wall made a noise, the bore stopped and smoke started coming out of the box.
Our bore electrician attended and, as suspected, the start capacitor had blown.

The capacitor was quite burnt as evidenced in these pictures. This one was a 40 micrtofarad start run capacitor operating a 1.1kw submersible Sumoto pump motor.

Our electrician replaced the capacitor for the Ballajura customer from stock we carry in the van. The electrician also fixed the affected connections and this Ballajura water bore was up and running again with the customer all smiles.

Liana in Dalkeith needed her water bore repaired and called us on 9246 0111.

Our specialist bore electrician tested the circuits and found her 1.1 kw three phase submersible pump motor was fused. We replaced it with a new submersible pump motor and tested all OK.

Today our bore repair team attended a quite deep submersible bore just off Joondalup Drive after a call from a customer about a bore repair problem on 9246 0111.

Our specialist bore electrician tested the submersible pump motor from the surface at the control equipment and unfortunately it has tested both fused and down to earth.

Another problem is no-one knows where the bore is located under the driveway. It is important for the home-owner to note the location of the bore when drilling a new bore or if buying a home with a bore. It saves money and time locating it.

We know the depth to water at this location is about 50 metres so the bore will be over 60 metres total depth.  We will need to winch it to the surface and confirm the tests. If necessary we will then replace the 3 phase motor. If we can confirm the motor is fused then our electrician will write it up as fused which may well be an “insured event” under the homeowners insurance policy.
