It was a great feeling to turn the new submersible pump on and see such a great result. Client in Dianella had a very large centrifugal pump down a 7 liner well. The centrifugal pump had failed and it was not practical or economical to replace or recondition the pump. Fortunately a few years ago the bore hole at the bottom of the old well had been redrilled and replaced with a 100 mm PVC casing. This was compatible with a new submersible pump. The 3 phase centrifugal system was converted to a submersible pump 3kw ( 4hp ) three phase. The old two stage starter on the wall was replaced by a new 415 vDOL starter. While we were at it we converted the gentlemans old manual gate valve sprinkler system to a modern automated one. A fully programmable reticulation controller now turns on the new submersible pump at the same time it opens solenoid valves to controll the 3 separate sprinkler stations. He had the old mountain mist metal disc sprinklers that are common with old well systems all over Perth. Those sprinklers use about 17 litres per minute each. We had to take this into account when specifying the new submersible pump for the old well conversion. We had to make sure the new pump had the power to adequately run all his sprinklers as configured without modification. As the picture shows its great when a plan comes together! Pump stuck down bore?
From time to time we are called to attend a water bore repair job where we find a submersible pump stuck down a bore hole. Most commonly it would be a 25 year old plus bore. But sometimes we see it in more modern bores. Occasionally it is the result of a lightning strike or lighning induction and the pump motor has blistered or swollen. More commonly it would be because tree roots have managed to get in to the bore hole through a breach in the casing or from the top. Sometimes it is that the stainless steel draw-wire has snapped. Occasionally the electrical cable has become entangled. Sometimes the borecasing itself is no longer truly perpendicular. There are a host of other reasons we have encountered. More often than not we can recover the situation using our winch or other techniques.

Water Bore Fusion Insurance Claims
As Perth metro sprinkler bans are about to end many Perth bore owners are testing their water bores for the first time this season……and some aren’t working! We has calls today from Fremantle, Lancelin, Two Rocks and Sorrento all with similar stories. “I’m starting my bore and the circuit breaker is tripping ( or fuse is blowing), what do I do?”. First thing is we send a bore electrician ( one who is experienced in pumps and bores ) with special equipment to test the circuits and windings of the motor. With submersible motors this can be done without winching the pump up. Remember if it is a fused bore pump motor it may be covered under household insurance. Also if the fault can be traced back to one of winters electrical storms it may be related, even damage from lightning induction, and this too may be subject to an insurance claim. This is a very good reason to have the matter attended to first by specialist bore repairers who can correctly diagnose the fault and possible cause. 1300 734 300 will reach us 24/7
Water Bore Perth Electrician -start capacitor.
Our water bore service hotline today received an
anxious call from a gentleman in Two Rocks. He was doing the right thing and testing his water bore before sprinkler bans end in 5 days time (31/08/12). A bit of “interrogation” over the phone and we were able to diagnose a blown bore start capacitor. He had removed the cover of the start box himself, which we must emphasise is NOT to be done as it is 240 volt and dangerous. A few questions and we determined it was a 40 microfad start/run capacitor that had blown. It was swollen with evidence of grey “gunk” that had oozed out of it, typical when the start capacitor blisters and the end comes off or a hole gets blown in the side. No worries our bore service electrician will fit a new one on the way up to Mondays prebooked Woodridge bore repair. The bore electrician will test his bore pump motor and confirm if that is all that is wrong. The adjacent pic is of how a start capacitor in a bore start box shoud look. Perfectly cylindrical and not blistered or swollen.
Water Boring Woodridge
Big day Monday in Woodridge as we are repairing an old water bore that had a fused pump motor. Our service team should have no problems winching it the 55 odd metres to the surface and changing the submersible motor. Meanwhile our parent company www.virginbores.com.au will be drilling a new water bore to a depth of 50 metres in Birdwood Dve Woodridge. Give us a call on 1300 734 3000 with any water bore requirements in the area.
Reticulation & Bore Service Peak Period
On September 1, that’s only 15 days away, winter sprinkler bans end and 100’s of thousands of Perth homes will turn their bores and retic on for the first
time for the season. A good many of these sprinkler systems or water bores will require attention. There will be the usual hectic rush by our servicemen to meet 100′ s of urgent calls and there will be invariable delays. But there’re is a solution.
Test your bore or reticulation system NOW.
Weekly testing is allowed during Perth sprinklers bans and it helps you keep your bore or retic in good working order. Pumps, check valves and solenoid valves all like frequent use as do sprinkler shafts. Testing now means there is plenty of time to call us if there is a problem. Remember also to change your reticulation controller battery if required. If you wish to book a reticulation or bore service call Troy on 0408454130.
Water Bore Gabbadah
We have done many submersible water bores in Gabbadah. Call us on 9246 0111.
For example, we completed an 88 metre deep domestic borehole in Gabbadah (Sovereign Hill ) just north of Perth. Very deep by metro standards! The groundwater is pumped directly to a large storage tank from where it is used to irrigate a semi rural block.
With the size of some rural blocks in the area we use the best materials and methods and have the local experience in the area to get the best that is possible for the Gabbadah home owner.
We are increasingly drilling and servicing water bores in the areas stretching from Two Rocks to Lancelin. Recently completed water bores include Seatrees Estate, Breakwater Estate, Woodridge and Guilderton ( Moore River). We are happy to advise on any water bore requirements, new bores or bore repairs not just in metro Perth but all along the coastal strip from Joondalup to Lancelin.
If you live on a semi-rural block in the Gabbadah area and would like to learn more about getting a water bore for your property and the money you could save read more HERE
If you have a Gabbadah water bore that needs repair call us on 9246 0111.
Thanks!

Electrician connecting bore

Our electrician connecting a new domestic water bore in Melville. This submersible bore is the typical 1.1kw

stainless steel pump and motor connected to the clients existing reticulation sprinkler system. Once the electrician is finished and the bore is connected in to the retic system nothing will be visible at the surface. The small green lid visible in the foreground will be buried just under the lawn concealing the borehead.
This bore will be a shared bore. The neighbour will be able to turn the bore on from his own reticulation controller. The two house shared the cost of the water bore drilling. Quite a common practice in Perth.
Troubleshooting Guide Water Bore not working Perth
If the pump is not starting at all
- check the fuse or circuit breaker that should be in your meter box and labelled “bore” or “pump”

- if it is 3 phase reset the 415-440v D.O.L ( Direct Online Starter)

- if it is single phase there is most likely a separate 240v start box with a reset/over-ride switch, check that.
- if it is operated from a reticulation controller check that that has 240v power going to it. Just because the reticulation controller has a display does not mean it has 240v power. Remove the 9v back up battery and confirm there is still a display.
- can you hear the 24 v relay clicking in or the contactor making a clunking sound when you start the retic controller? Starting the reticulation controller sends a 24v signal to a relay or contactor which turns on the “mains” power to the bore pump.
- if all the above seems OK and it is a submersible pump, perhaps the motor is starting and you can’t hear it and another related water delivery problem exists. Does your electricity meter speed up when you start the pump? You can check this if it is the old spinning disc style.
- if it is a centrifugal pump in a well have you checked the isolation switch normally located in the top well liner?
- have you had electrical work recently done at your house?
Call us on 9246 0111 if none of the above helped. We may be able to help further on the phone or we will send our mobile bore service teams to any Perth suburb or read more on our main website
