Bore pumping sand?

We called on a client today in Attadale.

He had sand coming out of his old submersible bore and blocking sprinklers. Three scenarios spring to mind.  (1) Worst case it could be that the  screen at the bottom of the submersible bore has been perforated or cracked to such an extent it lets sand in. This would most likely mean a new bore hole would need to be drilled. Sometimes though, we try setting the submersible pump inlet higher up the casing with some success. (2) Sometimes we find the check valve on the submersible pump is no longer holding prime whilst at the same time there is a faulty solenoid valve, open gate valve or cracked irrigation main line that causes sand to be sucked back down the rising main when the pump is turned off.  (3) there is ingress of dry sand falling down an incorrectly covered  bore head or wet sand being washed down with incorrect bore head exposure and drainage. There are other reasons. All can be addressed.

For old well style bores there are different reasons again that we will cover in another blog.

Bore Check Valve Perth

working. A few calls today from people with the old well style bores that had lost prime after extended periods of no use. ( remember best to run them weekly for 2 minutes per station as allowed even during total sprinkl;er bans).  Most likely a leaking check valve ( foot valve , clacker valve etc) or leaking gland packing. Not a worry for our Perth bore service teams. We specialize in bore repairs. Give us a call on 1300 734 300 for prompt and friendly service.

Bore runs out of water?

This week we got a couple of calls (Gosnells and Lynwood) which we more commonly get from Perth bore owners at the end of summer rather than end of winter. ” Help, what can I do my bore has run out of water?” Mostly  at the end of a few tests we find that indeed it was some other problem rather than the bore running out of water that was giving the false impression. “False” causes can include, but are not limited to, bore pump problems, solenoids not opening, thermal overloads cutting in and out,  splits or leaks in rising main lines and pumps running backwards. If the bore actually has developed a problem with yield ( the flow of water pumped out is faster than the flow in ) we can fairly quickly determine this with a few tests.  Sometimes in  worst case scenarios the solution is to drill a new borehole. Often though, we can solve the yield problem by air development ( where we pump compressed down the borehole to help clear the screens) and sometimes we can increase yield by treating the bore with specially designed chemicals that both clean the screen and treat clays. Sometimes we use a combination of both. Give us a call on 1300 734 300 if we can help you with your Perth bore problem or visit our main website.

Pump stuck down bore?

From time to time we are called to attend a water bore repair job where we find a submersible pump stuck down a bore hole. Most commonly it would be a 25 year old plus bore. But sometimes we see it in more modern bores. Occasionally it is the result of a lightning strike or lighning induction and the pump motor has blistered or swollen. More commonly it would be because tree roots have managed to get in to the bore hole through a breach in the casing or from the top. Sometimes it is that the stainless steel draw-wire has snapped. Occasionally the electrical cable has become entangled. Sometimes the borecasing itself is no longer truly perpendicular. There are a host of other reasons we have encountered.  More often than not we can recover the situation using our winch or other techniques.

Making Existing Bores Automatic- automating bores. Perth.

Visited two homes today, both coincidentally in Dianella, to advise on automating their bores. They were both typical old well style bores commonly seen in Dianella. Both bores were manually operated from a DOL starter and ran two separate  stations front and rear. Two gate valves were manually turned to send the water either to the front or back after the bore was started manually. This is a very typical early installation common in Perth bores.

To make a bore reticulation system automatic we firstly fit an outdoor reticulation controller and replace the manual gate valves with automatic solenoid valves. Our electrician then interfaces the retic controller to automatically turn on the bore starter via a 24v relay. We can automate either 3 phase or single phase bores. When the reticulation controller (timer) turns on the bore it opens the required solenoid valve at the same time and ” hey presto” the bore reticulation works automatically at the pre-programmed time! We program it to comply with Perth bore sprinkler roster days and the homeowner can “set and forget”.

Water Bore Fusion Insurance Claims

As Perth metro sprinkler bans are about to end many Perth bore owners are testing their water bores for the first time this season……and some aren’t working! We has calls today from Fremantle, Lancelin, Two Rocks and Sorrento all with similar stories. “I’m starting my bore and the circuit breaker is tripping ( or fuse is blowing), what do I do?”. First thing is we send a bore electrician ( one who is experienced in pumps and bores ) with special equipment to test the circuits and windings of the motor. With submersible motors this can be done without winching the pump up. Remember if it is a fused bore pump motor it may be covered under household insurance. Also if the fault can be traced back to one of winters electrical storms it may be related, even damage from lightning induction, and this too may be subject to an insurance claim. This is a very good reason to have the matter attended to first by specialist bore repairers who can correctly diagnose the fault and possible cause. 1300 734 300 will reach us 24/7

Water Boring Woodridge

Big day Monday in Woodridge as we are repairing an old water bore  that had a fused pump motor. Our service team should have no problems winching it the 55 odd metres to the surface and changing the submersible motor. Meanwhile our parent company www.virginbores.com.au will be drilling a new water bore to a depth of 50 metres in Birdwood Dve Woodridge. Give us a call on 1300 734 3000 with any water bore requirements in the area.

Bore Prime and Perth Sprinkler Bans

Today we had 3 calls from Perth customers with old well style bores. All had a similar story. They had not started their bores for quite a while and the pumps had lost prime. This indicates that most likely there is a slow leak in the check valve. No problems we can fix it…but it is wise to start thse old bores at least weekly. This is permitted up to 2 minutes per station for testing purposes during the Perth winter sprinkler bans.

Reticulation & Bore Service Peak Period

On September 1, that’s only 15 days away, winter sprinkler bans end and 100’s of thousands of Perth homes will turn their bores and retic on for the first time for the season. A good many of these sprinkler systems or water bores will require attention. There will be the usual hectic rush by our servicemen to meet 100′ s of urgent calls and there will be invariable delays. But there’re is a solution.

Test your bore or reticulation system NOW.

Weekly testing is allowed during Perth sprinklers bans and it helps you keep your bore or retic in good working order. Pumps, check valves and solenoid valves all like frequent use as do sprinkler shafts. Testing now means there is plenty of time to call us if there is a problem. Remember  also to change your reticulation controller battery if required.  If you wish to book a reticulation or bore service call Troy on 0408454130.

Water Bore Gabbadah

We have done many submersible water bores in Gabbadah. Call us on 9246 0111.

For example, we completed an 88 metre deep domestic borehole in Gabbadah (Sovereign Hill ) just north of Perth. Very deep by metro standards! The groundwater is pumped directly to a  large storage tank from where it is used to irrigate a semi rural block.

With the size of some rural blocks in the area we use the best materials and methods and have the local experience in the area to get the best that is possible for the Gabbadah home owner.

We are increasingly drilling and servicing water bores in the areas stretching from Two Rocks to Lancelin. Recently completed water bores include Seatrees Estate, Breakwater Estate, Woodridge and Guilderton ( Moore River).  We are happy to advise on any water bore requirements, new bores or bore repairs not just in metro Perth but all along the coastal strip from Joondalup to Lancelin.

If you live on a semi-rural block in the Gabbadah area and would like to learn more about getting a water bore for your property and the money you could save read more HERE

If you have a Gabbadah water bore that needs repair call us on 9246 0111.

Thanks!
