We are presently automating the reticulation systems in two adjacent Duncraig homes.
They share an old style bore which had been operated by a manual switch. So far we have installed a separate automatic reticulation controller on each property and are replacing the old manual gate valves with automatic solenoid valves (3 solenoids on one property and 5 on the other).
The retic system at one house hadn’t been used for 20 years so fingers crossed when we give it a well overdue service and some TLC!
We are up for a challenge,

We installed a new submersible water bore for a client who knew there would be problems with access for the water bore drilling rig. All suburbs 9246 0111.
We couldn’t use any of our portable or smaller drilling rigs because the ground was mainly limestone. We knew from experience the limestone would go all the way down to his required depth of 28 metres and it needed the power of our truck mounted drilling rigs to be drilled successfully.
Neat hole in drive way ready for bore drilling
There were large brick walls around the entire property so the only option was to drill the bore in his driveway. Normally a simple job to drill a bore in a driveway if it is paving. Then we simply lift pavers, drill the bore, install and connect the submersible pump and then replace the pavers. But this driveway was poured aggregate. Customer was determined to get a bore. Solution…we arranged a contractor to cut a neat circular hole in the aggregate driveway.
Water bore driveway cut out
We preserved the circular cut out. After bore drilling and installation this same cut out plug shown here was put back as the lid over our bore box.
It was a very neat solution. Ring us with your Perth water boring challenge on 9246 0111 or read more about getting a modern submersible water bore here.
We often get water bore repair calls where the problem turns out to be the start capacitor. Call on 9246 0111.
Start capacitor and start box
Start capacitor in start box
In a single phase submersible bore pump the start capacitor is ordinarily in the 240 volt start box. Three phase submersible pumps do not have start capacitors. In some centrifugal pumps the capacitor can be mounted externally on the pump motor housing. It is surprising how often a faulty capacitor is missed as the cause of a bore pump problem particularly when tests are carried out by someone who is not specifically experienced in bore pump service work. Even trained general electricians can misdiagnose this simple problem.
Often a capacitor problem can spotted visually as it will commonly swell or rupture. A start capacitor should be perfectly cylindrical. Sometimes though a faulty capacitor can only be diagnosed by the serviceman actually testing it when disconnected. As the start box is mains powered it does need a licensed electrician or certified electrical worker to test and replace the start capacitor. Our specialist bore electrician Dave is expert at this.
Close up burnt bore start capacitor
One of our clients from Baldivis sent us these pics of inside his submersible water bore start box.
This is a single phase start box and is a particularly dramatic example of a blown start capacitor.

Our mobile bore service teams carry a variety of different size start capacitors and can quickly diagnose and fix this common bore problem. We repair water bores in all Perth suburbs, call us on 9246 0111 or book a service online
Drilling water bores in limited access or difficult sites just got easier in Perth. One of our drillers just completed a new trailer mounted drilling rig.
Trailer mounted drilling rig
Rig fits into tight spaces
It can be manhandled through tight spaces as little as 2 metres wide and 2.3 metres high. We can push it under carports that are high enough and through to the backyard. This new water bore drilling rig can even drill through limestone prevalent along our Perth coastal strip.
If you have a water bore requirement that is in a difficult to access site then give our new bore team a call at Virgin Bores on 92460111 or visit http://www.virginbores.com.au. We also have portable bore drilling rigs that can be reassembled in even more difficult to access sites and extra tight spaces for bores that are being drilled mainly in sand or light clays.
If you’re having a problem with your reticulation controller it’s worth trying a factory reset or we will talk you through it on 9246 0111.
This drops all programming and brings the retic controller back to factory default. Different brands and even individual models of the same brand controllers have ways of resetting. Your irrigation / reticulation controller manual should list how to reset the controller.
Once you have done the factory reboot don’t forget to reprogram all your settings for your allocated watering days.
This info from Hunter relates to their most common models.
Our Virgin Bores team have just finished installing a new submersible water bore in Wilson. This one we drilled to 19 metres at a newly completed house.
We backed the drilling rig truck up to the small perimeter wall and were able to drill “over” the slim high wall. The new bore is just behind the Virgin Bores sign on the other side of the wall. Note the small pile of sand resulting from drilling a 100mm diameter borehole to a depth of 19 metres. Water bearing ground was encountered at 5 metres.
A manifold of solenoid valves
New bore ready for retic in Wilson
This is pretty standard for Wilson. We installed a 1.5 horsepower (1.1 kilowatt) stainless steel submersible pump and Italian Sumoto motor. Included in this clients bore package was a 6 station Rainmaster reticulation controller. We then installed 4 solenoid valves in the ground and automated them. The 4 solenoid valves are pictured here adjacent to the actual borehead. The borehead was then covered over by a small green bore box and buried under the sand. The solenoid valves will be covered by valve covers for access if needed. Our bore electrician wired in the controller to auto start the bore pump and operate the solenoid valves.
Now a very easy job for the client to finish the reticulation sprinkler system. If we can help you with a bore or retic work in Wilson or surrounds please call us on 9246 0111 or visit Virgin Bores here
As well as fixing water bores, we service and repair reticulation systems and install complete news systems.
Today we completed another irragation system in Piara Waters south of Perth. This retic system we connected to a new submersible water bore we drilled last week. Note in the pic the raised and exposed PVC pipes will be covered when the raised retained garden bed is backfilled.
If you have been thinking about a new reticulation system south of the river go to our main website http://www.virginbores.com.au or ring on 924601111
This week we drilled two bores in the Piara Waters.
The water table was relatively shallow at six metres which means would normally drill to eighteen metres. In both of these water bores we drilled to twenty five metres for better quality water and greater flow.
Both of these Piara Waters water bores are being equipped with a 1.1 kilowatt submersible pump. This is perfect for the smaller gardens in Piara Waters.
We have good local knowledge in Piara Waters and surrounding suburbs like Atwell, Banjup and Champion Lakes.

This article in a Saturday edition of the West Australian newspaper told us how clear the bore water is in the Perth suburb of Trigg. If you would like to save money with a water bore call us on 9246 0111
We have always known that bores can help sell houses but here they are a Trigg suburb highlight.
All along the coast we have installed and services hundreds of water bores. Even on West Coast Drive right next to the ocean. Often people are stunned when we drill a coastal water bore and the salt level of the ground water is less than that of tap water. We are Perth’s coastal water bore specialists for drilling new bores and servicing water bores and bore pumps.
Call us on 9246 0111 with any bore water query. New Perth bores cost between $3,000 & $8,000 depending on depth to water and bore pump size. Depth to water is commonly dependent on how high your property is above sea level. Coastal bores are usually relatively cheap unless on elevated positions like the hills in City Beach.
