Pat lives in Greenwood and her RCD (Residual Current Device) switch was tripping. (It was the RCD rather than the circuit breaker tripping ) Who did she call? Us on 9246 0111.
We sent out our experienced bore electrician, Dave.
The first thing he did was test the submersible water bore motor and it tested OK. There was one RCD that protected all power points on two circuits with the pump on the power circuit.
Bore was tripping when retic ran.
Pat told us that when station 3 was on the RCD tripped. Dave noticed there was a broken sprinkler right near the bore head washing out sand.
He exposed the bore head and it was filled with sand which he dug out by hand. Sand should not cover the top of a submersible bore for a variety of reasons. It can drop down inside the bore casing and as it is pumped back out it will prematurely wear out the pump impellers. It can also play havoc with solenoid valves in the retic system.
But why was this bore tripping?
As Dave dig down he exposed the electrical junction box that joined the cables up from the pump with those going towards the house. It appears that as the sand got wet from the broken sprinkler the moisture was getting in to the less than perfect electrical junction box and causing the bore RCD to trip. Upon removing the sand and retesting all worked OK. It has been noted though that the j box will need replacing and raising whenever the submersible motor is replaced.
This Greenwood garden bore and retic system is now working OK.
We have been in Kingsley testing a 1.5 kw Red Jacket pump motor after Daryl rang us with problems with his submersible water bore. It has given faithful service as it is approximately 24 years old.
Ultimately the pump motor tested OK for our specialist bore electrician Dave but the original tests read dead short to earth. He found that the junction box in the borehead was completely burnt out. Dave replaced the junction box for new and all is working again. He did a Tong Test which was at 11 amps well within range.
Dave drilled several holes in the bottom of the junction box to allow water to drop out and not fill up in the future.
We have drilled and repaired a number of modern submersible water bores in the Kingsley area and the surrounding suburbs of Padbury and Woodvale so we understand the ground water conditions in the area. Call us on 9246 0111 or go to our website HERE
A modern submersible water bore saves money and is normally low in maintenance.

Dave from Hocking called us because his bore was tripping. We sent our Dave, the electrician, to test the 1.5 kw submersible motor. It tested OK. The pump was also running OK but after a while the start box overload tripped so Dave bypassed the faulty overload.
Also there were 6 programs with 6 start times in each, now there is only one program with one start time. The reticulation now comes on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 6 am for 10 mins on the 7 stations.
So Dave’s sprinklers are now coming on and he is all organised for summer.

At this Ellenbrook job our specialist water bore electrician Dave found that the capacitor in the bore start box had ruptured. The client had called us on 9246 0111 when their water bore stopped working.
Badly ruptured capacitor in start box.
This start box has a burnt out capacitor.
When our Ellenbrook client reported their bore wasn’t working we talked to them on the phone and asked a few questions to determine who was the best person to send.
As you will see pictured the start box cover was damaged by the burnt out capacitor. After we replaced the capacitor and start box we tested the motor electrically and all was OK. Our electrician carries a meggar tester specifically to send a signal down to the submersible pump motor and back up again to test it against known benchmarks.
We have been in the bore drilling and repair business for nearly 20 years and will promptly diagnose bore faults and will repair in an economical and timely fashion. We carry the majority of spare bore and pump parts onboard.
We provide a fast local bore and reticulation repair service to Ellenbrook, The Vines, Aveley, Brabham and all throughout the Swan Valley.

Today we are visiting a client in Bull Creek about automating his old well.
At the moment he turns on the old well manually from the DOL starter near the metre box. He then turns on two manual gate valves near the old well to send water to the front and back of his Bull Creek home.
We will send our specialist bore election to fully automate the system. He will install a new reticulation controller to interface with the bore. He will also run cables to the gate valves and we will replace with automatic 24 volt solenoid valves turned on and off by the reticulation controller.
We are expert at the automation of water bores. For more information check out our website HERE or call Troy on 9246 011
We had installed a bore for Bob in Booragoon a few years ago.
He rang to say the bore was not working. We sent out our specialist bore electrician Dave. The submersible pump motor tested ok and he noted that there was no 24 volt to relay from controller.
He found that there was a red multicore running along the pavers from below the reticulation controller to below the bore start box. The joint connection at the bottom of the start box was faulty so he remade it.
All working again on front 2 stations. There was no cover on station 3,4,5 and 6, it was cut off due to construction. He fixed.

We often get water bore repair calls where the problem turns out to be the start capacitor. Call on 9246 0111.
In a single phase submersible bore pump the start capacitor is ordinarily in the 240 volt start box. Three phase submersible pumps do not have start capacitors. In some centrifugal pumps the capacitor can be mounted externally on the pump motor housing. It is surprising how often a faulty capacitor is missed as the cause of a bore pump problem particularly when tests are carried out by someone who is not specifically experienced in bore pump service work. Even trained general electricians can misdiagnose this simple problem.
Often a capacitor problem can spotted visually as it will commonly swell or rupture. A start capacitor should be perfectly cylindrical. Sometimes though a faulty capacitor can only be diagnosed by the serviceman actually testing it when disconnected. As the start box is mains powered it does need a licensed electrician or certified electrical worker to test and replace the start capacitor. Our specialist bore electrician Dave is expert at this.
One of our clients from Baldivis sent us these pics of inside his submersible water bore start box.
This is a single phase start box and is a particularly dramatic example of a blown start capacitor.
Our mobile bore service teams carry a variety of different size start capacitors and can quickly diagnose and fix this common bore problem. We repair water bores in all Perth suburbs, call us on 9246 0111 or book a service online
