If you have a submersible water bore and you are doing renovations, it is important to consider the water bore as part of your planning.
Old Fremantle Bore
We attended a job in North Fremantle that had an old submersible bore that was working before renovations but had not been reconnected.
We sent our electrician to test the motor and quote the on the cost of re-connection of the submersible water bore.
He found the motor tested OK but that it was an old installation with imperial sizes, no slack on the bore head cable and lots of limestone in ground and concrete around the house. It will be a challenging job to reconnect electrically.
There was a new start box needed to even test the bore itself was OK electrically as original start box was missing.
Once the bore is back up and running this one is to be wired just for manual operation as the owner intends to continue using it just manually from a hose. Later if it is connected to automatic reticulation we can install a reticulation controller.

James from Mount Pleasant phoned regarding his submersible pump that was tripping the circuit breaker. (Call us anytime on 9246 0111 if you need help too)
The water bore was drilled in his driveway and it was very useful to know that the paver to show where the bore was located was a different color. As pictured the bore head was was covered by an old concrete lid pit.
Our senior experienced bore electrician Dave reported the motor was about 8 years old. The 1.1 kw 2 wire subbie motor was dead short to earth and although the motor’s windings appeared to be intact the internal capacitor had ruptured. So we replaced it with a new 1.1 kw sunbmersible pump motor and replaced the start box and junction box.
We have drilled and repaired many water bores in Mt Pleasant, Applecross, Bateman Ardross and surrounds. We are very experienced with the conditions in the area. If your water bore or retic is in need of repair call us on 9246 0111 or check out our main website HERE
The phones are hotting up with Perth gardeners getting ready for another beautiful summer in the best city in the world!
We had a call last week from a Mindarie resident whose water bore needed repair.
It was a shared bore with a neighbour and they were keen to get it fixed pronto. Sharing a water bore is a great idea as it halves the costs. More shared bore info here.
Our specialist bore electrician, Dave, attended and tested and found the 1.1 KW submersible motor was fused.
He made a number of recommendations. Replace the bore cable down the hole, renew the junction box at the top of the bore, rewire bore to house and replace the submersible motor, start box and wet-end (pump).
Troy forwarded this Mindarie customer the details of what was needed to have a flourishing sea side garden this summer.

It was a bleak spring day when we went to see a customer in Rockingham area who was looking at installing a modern submersible water bore to save money. He had phoned us on 9246 0111.
We would drill this Rockingham submersible water bore to 18 metres through what is know as Safety Bay sand. The groundwater salinity is 500 – 1000. We have drilled in coastal suburbs for nearly 20 years so know the conditions well.
We have drilled many water bores in the Rockingham and Waikiki areas. It will be drilled and constructed to best industry practices and a good quality Italian stainless steel submersible 1.1 kw motor.
Unlike the old style wells with ugly tin lids the new submersible water bores are silent and virtually invisible on the surface.
If you would like to save money on your water bills, talk to us about a modern bore in the Rockingham area call 92460 1111 or get more information HERE.
If you live in the Rockingham or Waikiki area and already have a water bore or reticulation, we have expert teams on the road that can service and repair.
When a submersible pump is assembled one of the most critical thing to get right is the electrical connection that will spend its life under water. Our specialist bore electrician Dave will get it right – 9246 0111.
Most submersible water bores in Perth have this underwater connection done using a heat shrink kit. The submersible motor has a factory installed “blue lead” which is connected to the electrical cable that will come all the way up from the pump to the bore head at the surface.
Seen here is the factory lead first being crimped to the electrical cable and then the waterproof heat shrink kit is applied. These are a series of sleeves which are essentially shrunk over the cable joins provided a waterproof connection.
A separate stainless steel cable holds the weight of the submersible pump so
no stress is placed on this electrical joint. Sometimes in old submersible bores incorrectly joined electrical cables can be a source of trouble. Our bore electricians are well equipped to diagnose and repair any electrical
problem you may have with your bore or pump.

A common call to our Perth Water Bore repair line 1300 734 300 starts with the plea “my bore has stopped pumping water”.
In a submersible water bore (as opposed to a centrifugal pump in the old well style bore) 40mm flexible black poly pipe is often used to deliver the groundwater to the surface. The submersible pump is inside the 100mm bore-casing, under water near the bottom of the borehole.
If the pump is dead-headed (allowed to operate with nowhere for the water to flow to, such as when solenoid valves in reticulation systems fail to open) the pump motor will overheat. this causes the 40mm poly pipe to overheat and can quite commonly blow a hole in the side of the pipe just above the pump yet still under water. Hey presto no water to the surface but pump still runs. This picture is what the poly pipe looks like after winching to the surface for repair.
If you have a problem with a submersible pump that appears to still be running but no water is coming to the surface then a blown poly pipe could be the cause. Contact our team Perth metro wide and we will help. 1300 734 300 or visit our main website here.
At this time of year we always get a handful of calls from Perth bore owners along the lines of ” my bore is running out of water” or “my bore works for a minute or so then the bore water runs out”. Sometimes it is not the bore water running out that is the problem but actually a problem with the reticulation system or pump but I address that in other blogs or call us on 1300 734 300 for help with other bore problems.
Sometimes it is in fact the yield of the bore itself and the pump is pumping water out faster than it is flowing in to the bore casing. Then it is truly running out of water. Knee-jerk reaction is to think the bore is not deep enough. Sometimes the water table has dropped and it is a depth related issue. Often though, it is that the stainless steel bore screen or slotted PVC bore casing of the bore (or spear) has become blocked. Sometimes the ground surrounding the bore has reduced the water it will “allow” to flow through it. These problems can sometimes be solved by air-developing a process where we pump large volumes of compressed air down the bore hole. Other times we chemically clean and restore the bore with a combination of special cleaning compounds, surfactants and clay dispersants depending on the conditions diagnosed.
