Water Bore Repair Marmion

One of our bore service team went to a job this morning in Marmion. The bore was installed at this Marmion garden in December 2014 and it is 20 metres deep.

The bore was turning on normally with the power meter spinning faster when the bore pump was turned on with all the normal sounds and the tell tale click but there was no water.

We thought it was going to be a blown poly rising main pipe down the submersible bore hole but it was in fact a split fitting in the bore box. It was probably caused by the surface pipe connections to the retic having being completed and rigid before the pump was turned on for the first time. The very first running of a submersible pump fills the rising poly main with water which is then held there every after by the pumps check valve. This weight most likely stretched the stainless steel draw wire slightly and put undue pressure on the fitting which subsequently split.

We replaced the fitting and the bore is up and running.

Bore not starting Booragoon

We had installed a bore for Bob in Booragoon a few years ago.

He rang to say the bore was not working. We sent out our specialist bore electrician Dave. The submersible pump motor tested ok and he noted that there was no 24 volt to relay from controller.

He found that there was a red multicore running along the pavers from below the reticulation controller to below the bore start box. The joint connection at the bottom of the start box was faulty so he remade it.

All working again on front 2 stations. There was no cover on station 3,4,5 and 6, it was cut off due to construction. He fixed.

We have drilled and repaired many bores in the Booragoon area and surrounding suburbs of Mount Pleasant, Myaree and Melville. If you have a problem with your Booragoon bore call Troy on 9246 0111 or if you submersible pump is not working find help  HERE

Water bores in Two Rocks

We have vast experience in drilling and servicing water bores in the Two Rocks area and surrounds over the last two decades.

We have drilled dozens of bores stretching from Yanchep and Two Rocks across to Seatrees Estate and  Breakwater Estate. Bores in the area range from some shallow ones right near the coast at Yanchep and Two Rocks typically around 18 metres and up to 60 metres further inland near Seatrees Estate and Breakwater Estate.

In the smaller residential blocks in Two Rocks we normally install 1.1kw submersible pumps perfect for normal home gardens. In the 5 acre blocks over at Seatrees and Breakwater we would normally instal a 1.5 or 2.2 kw pump to give closer to 150 litres per minute.

All new drilling and installations are handled by our new Bore team at Virgin Bores.

Broken Reticulation Trigg

A resident of Trigg rang with a problem with their reticulation system. It was about 30 years old and was losing pressure to the front verge. The reticulation sprinklers were hardly popping up.

After locating the front solenoid valves we found the 25 ml PVC pipe was disappearing into a mass of tree roots. It looked like the roots had crushed some of the reticulation pipes.

There was lots of hard yards digging and cutting roots to solve the problem.

Fix Master solenoid valve Wanneroo

Craig is one of our reticulation service team and he had had fun at this job in Wanneroo 9246 01121.

We took some time to locate and fix this master solenoid valve at the Wanneroo home of one of our customers. Fortunately the householder had a plan of their reticulation system, it saves a lot of time and money.

Surprisingly common to also find such a corroded manual gate valve that isolates the retic from the mains water supply which is often just near the water meter.

Fix old well North Perth

We fix old style wells in the North Perth area. These old style wells have concrete liners, a visible tin lid and a centrifugal pump. Call us on 9246 0111.

We marvelled at the workmanship of this North Perth well which we think is about 50 years old. The water delivery had become sluggish and the centrifugal pump appeared to be running backwards. Our specialist electrician attended to see if the phases have been reversed on the incoming 3 phases.

We specialise in fixing old style wells. If the well is beyond help we would be able to drill a new style sleek submersible water bore.

If your North Perth well is broken call Troy on 9246 0111 or if you are considering a modern submersible water bore call Dave on 9246 0111 or more information on old style wells and new submersible water bores HERE

Leak Detection

Do you think you might have a leak in your reticulation, sprinkler system or anywhere else in your home? There is a simple test you can do yourself or call us on 9246 0111

Detecting a water leak
Checking the reading on your meter

Make sure you turn off all taps inside and outside the home and check there are no visible leaks. Make sure the dishwasher, washing machine, evaporative air conditioner and garden reticulation controller are not in use. Also make sure your toilet cistern is not filling after a recent flush.
Then go to your water meter and record the black and red numbers on your water meter (write down or photograph). Wait 30 minutes, making sure no water is being used and record the reading again. If it has changed you probably have a leak.
Clues that the leak may be in the garden area are wet patches or very green localized patches in your lawn. Of course if your reticulation system is fed from a bore this cannot be a cause. If your reticulation system is fed from mains water there should be a separate gate valve, often near the water meter, that can be used to isolate the retic as a potential leak.
Our reticulation mobile service team are leak detection experts and can locate and fix the leak in the garden. If the leak is inside the home there is a list of recommended Waterwise plumbers on the Water Corporation website.
If you have a leak or any issue with your reticulation system in Perth call Troy on 9246 0111 or read more on our website HERE

Holman reticulation controller
Holman reticulation controller

Whether your retic timer is faulty or simply old and you are not able to program your required Perth watering days, we can help.

We replace reticulation timers in all Perth suburbs. We will fix your retic controller whether connected to mains water or a bore. If it is a plug-in style we send out our service man. If it needs hard-wiring to the mains power our electrician will attend.

Some retic controllers, like the Holman model pictured, look like they may be hard wired but this one actually had a plug pack transformer plugged into a power point in the roof.

We have compatible models to replace all brands of retic controllers including Holman, Rain Bird, Rainmaster, Hunter, Toro, Orbit, Richdel and Irritrol Rain Dial. We typically carry 6 and 9 station models in our mobile stock but we can get any size if required.

You can reach us on 9246 0111.

Why is my old Perth bore running out of water?

Some Perth bore owners are telling us their very old water bores are running out of water or that it runs for a minute or two then it runs out.  We can help on 9246 0111.

This can be a a problem with the reticulation system or with the pump.

Slotted PVC bore casing
Slotted PVC bore casing

Commonly it is an issue with the yield of the bore itself and the pump is pumping water out faster than it is flowing in to the bore casing.

Many people think the bore is not deep enough. At times the water table does drop & it is a depth related issue. More often the stainless steel bore screen or slotted PVC bore casing has become blocked. Sometimes the ground around the bore has reduced the water it will “allow” to flow through it.

We would try air-developing, a process where large volumes of compressed air are pumped down the bore. We can also chemically clean and restore the bore with a combination of special cleaning compounds, surfactants and clay dispersants.

If your old Perth water bore is running out of water call us on 9246 0111 and we will talk through the problem or book a service online
