Bore Automation Perth

We are automating an old bore in the southern Perth suburb of Shoalwater.

As pictured it is an old style well with a tin lid.

The sprinkler system is currently manually operated with five inground gate valves. This is common with these older style Perth water bores.

We will replace manual valves with 24  V solenoid valves which will be wired into a new reticulation controller. Our electrician will do the interface to start the bore automatically via a 24 V relay.

We do this type of Perth bore automation quite regularly with single station bore automations from as low as $750.

If you are in Perth and we can help you with a bore automation check out our website HERE or call one of our team on 9246 0111

Pulling up a submersible water bore.

If your modern submersible water bore is not working call us on 9246 0111 and we can talk through over the phone what the problem may be.

Portable winch used to pull up submersible pumps

In some circumstances a submersible pump and motor will need to be pulled up to the surface by one of our water bore repair teams with a winch designed for the task.

The torpedo like submersible water bore pump is usually suspended at the bottom of the borehole by a stainless steel cable used to retrieve the pump. Also coming to the surface from the pump will be a flexible poly pipe that delivers the water and an electrical cable that powers the motor.

Our service teams connect the stainless draw wire to one of our purpose built portable electric winches and simply winch the pump to the surface. Simultaneously though it is important that we also manually gently pull up the electrical cable to prevent jamming and damage to the heat shrink joint.

If your water bore needs fixing call us on 9246 0111 and we will assess what we think is the problem over the phone and send the correct member of our team to fix your water bore. If you submersible pump needs to be pulled to the surface call 9246 0111 or get some detailed information on your submersible pump HERE

Sand in your bore?

If you have a water bore and have white sand coming from your sprinklers call us on 9246 0111.

You’re never meant to see white sand coming from a sprinkler. In the case of this customer they had an old style well.

Screen failed allowing in sand
Sand coming out of sprinkler

The screen had failed which allowed in sand. It is very white sand that comes from water bearing ground that is washed almost iridescent over the years. The options for this broken Perth water bore was to either redrill a spear into the existing well or drill a new submersible bore.

After assessment by our bore serviceman it was decide it was more economical to opt for a new modern submersible water bore. Our bore installation and service team at can help with any bore problem in Perth. Call us on 9246 0111 or you can book a bore service HERE .

Water bore start capacitor problem

We often get water bore repair calls where the problem turns out to be the start capacitor. Call on 9246 0111.

Water bore start box and capacitor

In a single phase submersible bore pump the start capacitor is ordinarily in the 240 volt start box. Three phase submersible pumps do not have start capacitors. In some centrifugal pumps the capacitor can be mounted externally on the pump motor housing. It is surprising how often a faulty capacitor is missed as the cause of a bore pump problem particularly when tests are carried out by someone who is not specifically experienced in bore pump service work. Even trained general electricians can misdiagnose this simple problem.

Often a capacitor problem can spotted visually as it will commonly swell or rupture. A start capacitor should be perfectly cylindrical. Sometimes though a faulty capacitor can only be diagnosed by the serviceman actually testing it when disconnected. As the start box is mains powered it does need a licensed electrician or certified electrical worker to test and replace the start capacitor. Our specialist bore electrician Dave is expert at this.

One of our clients from Baldivis sent us these pics of inside his submersible water bore start box.

This is a single phase start box and is a particularly dramatic example of a blown start capacitor.

Electrical bore problem Beechboro

Our specialist bore electrician recently fixed a circuit breaker that was tripping in Beechboro. Call 9246 0111.

Dave, our electrician, tested the single phase submersible pump and all the electrical tests were OK but were marginal on this Beechboro water bore.

There was an old metal start-box which was rusted out and dangerous. He replaced and rewired the start box with a new 1.5 kw rated box with matching start capacitor. Dave replaced some dangerous connections at the bore head and retested everything. Given the apparent age of the submersible pump it will likely need replacing in the next few years. We have recommended that at that time the down hole electrical cable and stainless steel draw wire is also replaced.

Dave is an excellent bore electrician and ask him why one of our customers called him a “little treasure”

Old well lost prime Rivervale

This old style well in Rivervale has stopped pumping water and has lost prime. We got a call  on 9246 0111 from a client on Sunday who is selling his investment property in Rivervale.

His old style well in Rivervale has stopped pumping water with the he pump running  but no water was coming out. “My bore sounds like it is doing something – very noisy but no water coming out”. The homeowner kindly sent us some pics of the bore pump and well to help us work out the problem.

It is most likely a priming issue of some description. An air leak in the pump is a possibility as the client said the Perth bore pump ran dry for a while. This causes the metal housing to overheat which in turn can heat up the PVC pipe and distort it breaking the threaded seal and letting air in.

The cause may be a failed check valve, leak in the down borehole pipe or it may even be too far to the groundwater level in Rivervale at this time of year.

We will attend Rivervale on Monday and sort the problem as the client is in the process of selling the house. If we can help you with fixing an old well in Rivervale, Kewdale, Belmont or surrounds call on 9246 0111.

New submersible motor and pump Doubleview

Customer's submersible pump and 3 phase motor
Customer’s submersible pump and 3 phase motor

A Doubleview customer sent us this picture of his submersible pump and 3 phase motor. He and his electrician had pulled it out of his very old 32 metre submersible bore hole. They had disassembled it and electrically tested the motor.

The motor needed replacing. We attended and replaced the motor and while we were at it a new submersible pump. We replaced all down hole electrical cable which we heat shrunk to the new motor lead. We also replaced his old frayed stainless steel draw-wire but reused the existing 40 mm poly rising mainline that delivers the water. The poly pipe was all good even after several decades of service. At the same time we dosed the bore with 20 litres of chlorine to help kill the iron oxide bacteria that was evident.

Finished off with a new bore box at the bore head, reconnected and all set to go. Most Doubleview water bores are in the 30 to 60 metre deep range as a consequence of Doubleview’s elevation. If you have any questions call our team on 9246 0111.

New water bore Ballajura

Water bore problem Ballajura
Stuffed water bore Ballajura

It was a busy day in Ballajura today. We got called to a couple of bore electrical problems which we sorted quite quickly. We couldn’t immediately help the last call though.

The gentleman had a submersible bore that was of dubious construction. Not only was the borehole itself drawing sand, something which incidentally does not happen if the correct screens and gravel packing is used, but also the submersible pump was stuck irretrievably down the bore hole. The submersible pump had been installed down the bore without a stainless steel draw wire. The owner had erected a tripod and attempted to retrieve the pump by hauling up the poly pipe on a block and tackle. Unfortunately the poly pipe had snapped some metres down the bore hole and the poly pipe and submersible pump were now completely stuck.

Next week we will be drilling a new water bore for him. We’ll be sure to do everything to best practice standards to avoid problems like this in the future. We suspect this original bore had been a DIY or at best done by a backyard operator. Make sure if you are having a bore drilled in Ballajura or surrounds you use a licensed driller and preferably one who is a member of the ADIA.
